Eszterházy University is in bound up with the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). In every year some participants of the Teacher Training MA programme visit our university to have some professional practice by teaching our BSc and MSc students. These occasions are always welcomed by our students and staff as Dutch teaching methods are quite state of the art and felicitous.
This March three junior geography teachers visited us Lianne Hummel, Kenneth Vaneker and Sjoerd Niels de Vries.
Two lessons were taken by them one for BSc and the other for MSc students. On Tuesday a complex training was implemented around a relevant topic, namely walls around the world. The challenge of international migration was approached by different point of views. Our students could actively participate in the debate. A boosted attendance was obtained by the utilization of the so called Marshmallow Challenge. Groups of students got some dry spaghetti pasta pieces, a short adhesive tape, a small rope and some pieces of marsmallow. The project's objective was to build a tower from these ingredients as high as possible. Students could practice the relevance of team-working in this way.
On Wednesday for a small group of MSc students and teachers our guests at first took a lecture on city marketing and music. Hereafter our groups were asked to write and perform a marketing song about a geographical space. As our international student Lenin Bastidas from Ecuador has joined us, one song was about that country.
Our Dutch visitors taught as a new IT teaching method KAHOOT, which could be used by Hungarian teachers as well in elementary education.
