On 28th September, 2017 colleagues of the Institute of Geography and Environmental Sciences visited the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering of the University of Miskolc. The invitation was sent by our honoured Miskolc friends following their visit to Eger.
Dr. Péter Szűcs, the Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering presented the advances of the educational and R&D activities of the Faculty. Dr. Ilona Pajtók-Tari, the Vice Rector of EKU reported the biggest running development project of Eszterházy University, namely the „Complex Basic Program" aiming to reform the whole system of public education in Hungary. Dr. Csaba Patkós and Prof. dr. Károly Kocsis as directors of institutions and the heads of departments (Prof. dr János Mika, Dr. Beáta Siska-Szilasi and Dr. Endre Dobos) introduced their colleagues and ongoing activities of their units. In the afternoon session inter-personal colloquies were taking place in order to deepen professional co-operation between the two sides. Our colleagues of Miskolc are forerunners of geoinformatics and the dualisation of their geography programme. Their experiences can be useful in the future development of the Eger Institution as well.
A visit to the so-called „Training Mine" was a part of the program as well. The pit is situated in the former air raid shelter of the University of Miskolc and it represents deep mining activities for students and tourists.
The occasion is an integral part of a traditional activity-line started years ago by geographical collectives working on both side of the Bükk Mountains.
